Connect payouts, and what payments cost

Clients pay through The Veil and the money lands in your bank through your own Stripe account. What card and bank payments cost, and what The Veil takes.

When a client pays you on The Veil, the payment goes through Stripe into your own Stripe account, and Stripe pays it out to your bank. Set that up once on Billing. Billing is visible to owners and managers.

Set up payouts

  1. Open Billing and find Getting paid.
  2. Click Set up payouts. Stripe asks for your business and bank details.
  3. When you come back, the status shows Pending verification while Stripe checks, then Payouts active.

If Stripe needs more, the status shows Action needed with what it wants ("Stripe needs more info: …"). Finish setup takes you back. If the setup link expired, Billing says so; start it again. Once active, Manage payouts opens your Stripe dashboard.

What payments cost

  • Card: 2.9% + 30¢. That's Stripe's fee.
  • Bank transfer: 0.8%, capped at $5 however large the payment. On a $12,000 balance that's $5.
  • The Veil's fee: none on Pro and Studio. On the free plan, 3% of bookings paid through The Veil.

Stripe's fee comes out of your payout, because you are the merchant. Clients choose card or bank at checkout; bank transfers take a few days to clear. Money you're paid by check or cash, and record yourself, costs nothing.

For example, on a $2,000 deposit:

  • Paid by card: Stripe's fee is $58.30.
  • Paid by bank: Stripe's fee is $5.
  • On the free plan, The Veil's 3% adds $60 either way. On Pro and Studio it adds nothing.

Troubleshooting

  • Pending verification for a while: Stripe is checking your details. Nothing to do unless the status changes to Action needed.
  • Action needed: Stripe needs something more, shown under the status. Click Finish setup.
  • "Your payout setup link expired": start again with Finish setup or Set up payouts.
