DIY savings and the floral planner

See what doing it yourself saves by category, and balance fresh and silk flowers with one slider.

The Comparison tab answers two questions: how much is DIY actually saving us, and how much could we save by mixing silk flowers with fresh ones? The DIY workbench is part of The Veil Plus.

DIY vs. Vendor Comparison

Once you've added projects you'll see:

  • DIY Spend against Buying Retail: what your projects cost to make, and what the same things would cost bought finished.
  • Total DIY Savings, in dollars and as a percentage, with a line like "Across 3 projects, doing it yourself is saving you $252".
  • Savings by Category: a bar for each category with your DIY cost, the retail price and the percentage saved.

The Floral Deep Dive

A planner for balancing fresh and silk flowers within your florals budget.

  • Fresh, Blended and Silk show what your flowers would cost all fresh, at your blend, and all silk.
  • Estimated Savings shows what your blend saves compared with all fresh.
  • Drag the slider between 100% Fresh and 100% Silk, in 5% steps. The label underneath reads, for example, "50% Silk / 50% Fresh", and a tip suggests an approach.
  • Your Blend Breakdown shows the split in flowers and dollars.

Your blend sets the Floral Blend Required counts and the price of flower projects when you open them in Discover, and the price they're added to My Projects at.

Using the planner well

  • Silk works best where flowers are seen from a distance or handled a lot: arches, garlands, pew ends and flower walls.
  • Fresh is worth it where people look closely: bouquets, boutonnieres and table centerpieces.
  • Settle on your blend before adding flower projects. A project already in My Projects keeps the cost it was added with; adjust its materials there if your plans change.

Good to know

  • The catalog's retail prices are typical prices for the finished item, to compare against. Your own savings depend on the materials you pick.
  • A project that costs more to make than to buy shows no savings. That happens; it's worth knowing before you start.
